Based in Sackville, New Brunswick, Tanya Murphy is a visual artist and art director whose practice includes hot wax encaustic, sculpture, mixed media and graphic design.
Having spent her childhood in the Netherlands and the West Indies, Tanya’s work draws on her cumulative experiences bearing witness to the juxtapositions of the new and ancient, and natural and manufactured landscapes. These dualities shape her exploration of identity, examining how environments, both physical and cultural, influence a sense of self and belonging. Much of her work has stemmed from a fusing of fragmented memories, dreams, and lived experiences of loss and grief—and ultimately love and resilience.
